been anticipated that the metal building located north west of the wash plant area would be
removed this spring, and that Division contractors would also demolish the foundation this year.
A change to the demolition contract would allow for retention of this structure. The Forest
Service has represented that the water tank located near the old District Office is on property
recently acquired by the United States. It has been anticipated that the water tank would be
removed this spring, and that Division contractors would demolish the foundation in 1998. A
change to the demolition contract would allow for retention of this structure. Similarly, the water
well located near the rear of the District Office, which is the only well that I am aware of in this
area, may be located on property recently acquired by the United States. A change to the
demolition contract would allow for retention of this structure as well.
Road access through the Preparation Plant area and Wash Plant vicinity will be temporarily
disrupted during the 1998 construction season, however access will not be permanently lost.
The asphalt located to the east of Road A north of the former District Office location will be
destroyed during completion of the demolition project in 1998. Much of the asphalt has
deteriorated over time, and will be further damaged as a result of the demolition work which is to
occur in this spring and summer. Further, the Dutch Creek Diversion will bisect the property
through this area. However, plans call for leaving a flat area approximately 125 feet wide (north
to south), and from Road A to the location of the metal building north west of the Wash Plant.
This area would serve as a suitable parking area in the future.
The attached plans are based upon the Division's understanding of the reclamation plan which
exists in the permit. Modifications to these plans may be necessary dependent upon final
disposition of the privately held lands. The plans are separated into descriptions of various
reclamation tasks at discreet areas. The areas have been defined by the reclamation projects
which the Division anticipates contracting over the remaining construction seasons.
When reviewing the attached plans, it is necessary to keep in mind that most of the plans are
either draft, or preliminary in nature. Therefore, the plans will require revisions and
modifications in order to accommodate site conditions, and in order to accomplish efficient and
cost effective reclamation.
The description of the Wash Plant Demolition Project is excerpted from Bid PKA- 8 -404a. This
contract was awarded in the Fall of 1997. Construction is slated to begin this spring when ground
conditions allow. This project was awarded for $108,500, and is funded through bankruptcy
proceeds.
The Huntsman Project description is an excerpt of the draft bid document, which is not yet
completed. This project is funded through Abandoned Mined Land Funds. Currently, the cost to
complete this project is estimated at $200,000. This project is scheduled to begin in mid -July, and
be completed in mid- to late September, 1998. As we discussed with Mid - Continent Resources
3
