y
I
TECHNICAL REVISION TO MINING PERMIT NO. C-017-81
Coal Basin Underground Mining Plan Modifications
Extent And Sequences of Underground Workings.
See revised maps II-A-2 and II-A-3 attached hereto at
Enclosure 1. These maps have been prepared to meet the- requirements
of Par. 2. 05. 3 (2) (b) of the 11LRB Regulations and depict the areal
extent of the proposed underground workings, the revised rock
tunnel plan and the proposed locations for at least the first three
gas wells that will be utilized to evacuate methane gas from the
underground workings. The exact location of the rock tunnel west
portal will be determined following an exploration program now
being permitted with the Mined Land Reclamation Division and the
Gunnison National Forest to identify the most favorable near
surface geologic conditions for the portal bench and face-up
construction.
The narrative description of the Coal Basin underground
mining operation is contained in the first 45 pages of Chapter II
of the permit application. This description, prepared in 1979-
8p, remains essentially correct. Some minor updating will be
accomplished during the up-coming mid-term review of the application.
Rock Tunnel Plan Modification.
The rock tunnel plan as outlined in Paragraph II-B-3-c
(pages 30-45 of Chapter II) of the permit application needs to be
updated to include its extension to a west portal area. The
proposed updated version is at Enclosure 2. Only the general
plan for the tunnel extension and west portal configuration is
depicted at this time. Once an exploration plan has been submitted,
approved and accomplished, the detailed plan will be prepared
and submitted for approval.
Methane Gas Drainage Wells.
The current methane gas drainage plan for the Coal
Basin mines as described in paragraph II-B-2-b- (4) - (a) Ventilation,.
and Appendix II-B-1 Methane and Dust Control Plan No. 1 Mine of
the permit application needs revising to include the addition of
vertical methane gas draining shafts (wells) to the surface. The
methane gas problem has increased over the past few years due to
the extended distance of mining activities from the mine portals
and because the introduction of 800 foot wide longwall panels is
resulting in greater fracturing of the adjacent geologic formations.
The most promising solution appears to be the drilling of gas
' wells from the surface doom to the gob areas and evacuating the gas
Out to the surface utilizing suction pumps.
t
s
t
4
