Measurement and Payment
Treated areas will be measured to the nearest 0.1 acre and paid at the unit price bid
on the Bid Schedule Item 5. The price bid shall include all costs for labor, materials,
equipment and all other items necessary for application of the BFM as described in
these specifications.
TASK 6 TREE AND SHRUJ PLANTING
Containerized trees and shrubs, which may be bare root, cuttings oT- containerized, or
any combination of these, may be planted along the Mine 4 bench, located just above
the project area slopes, and at the base of the slopes. This Task is NOT guaranteed,
and will be completed only at the direction of PROJECT MANAGER, who will
delineate the planting areas in the field. OWNER will provide trees, shrubs, sun
shades and polyacrylamide. CONTRACTOR will provide necessary tools and
equipment to accomplish planting specifications.
The tree planting portion of the project will involve establishment of seedling trees on
the mine benches, which are located at an elevation of about 10,000 feet. The goal of
the project is to plant 200 trees per acre on approximately four (4) acres.
Trees will be planted in a random pattern by using a'hoe dad' or similar tool to
excavate an approximately twelve inch deep hole in the soil. A seedling previously
soaked in water containing polyacrylamide, a root stimulator, will be placed roots first
into the hole. Soil will be packed around the roots of the seedlings. A small water
containment berm, eighteen inches in circumference and six inches in height, will be
constructed around each seedling. A small sun shade, such as a piece of cedar
shake, will be placed on edge on the south side of each seedling to provide shade.
The tree and shrub planting portion of the project will occur at the base of the mine
bench outslopes. The base of the outslopes are generally located at an elevation of
about 9,500 feet.
The tree and shrub planting portion of the project will be completed at the base of the
Mine 4 outslopes. The purpose of this phase of the project is to slow water draining
from the outslopes, and to retain sediment which is transported by the runoff.
Approximately three (3) acres will be impacted by this project. Access to these areas
will be involve travel by foot. It is anticipated that 300 seedling tree— will be planted
per acre using the techniques described above. Additionally, 300 shrubs per acre will
be planted in a random pattern to compliment the tree planting. These will be
planted in a similar manner as the trees, except that a sun shade is not necessary.
14
