CONTRACTOR, and shall conform to the specifications of Task 5, Outslope
Protection, for those steep slopes designated for application of the BF1vI.
The CONTRACTOR will supply the fertilizer (commercial), mulch, and equipment for,
fertilizer application, seeding and mulching. Revegetation efforts will occur on
aqpproximatelX nine (9) acres, which includes outslopes on the north and east flanks of
Mine 4, including the loadout pad area slope, and the east facing outslopes along the
upper portions of the Road C corridor.
Hand broadcast application of seed is prefeicred, however hydro se, ding of the slopes
is acceptable.
If hydro seeding is selected to be employed on the slopes designated for application
of the bonded fiber matrix, the seed will be applied immediately prior to, and
separately from, installation of the BFM described in Task 5, Outslope Protection.
Seed application rate will be at the rate specified in Table 1, Outslope Seed Mixture,
for both hand broadcast and hydro seeding applications.
Measurement and Payment
Measurement and payment for this Task will be as per Revegetation Specification
20.0. Revegetated areas will be measured to the nearest 0.1 acre and paid at the unit
price bid on the Bid Schedule Items 4a and 4b. The price bid shall include all costs for
labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary for revegetation as
described in these specifications.
TASK 5 OUTSLOPE PROTECTION
CONTRACTOR shall hydraulically apply a bonded fiber matrix (BFM) that, upon
drying, shall adhere to the soil 'in the form of a continuous, 100% coverage
biodegradable erosion control blanket. Application of the BFM will occur on
approximately nine (9) steep slope acres.
The bonded fiber matrix shall be comprised of long strand thermal mechanical
defibrillated wood fibers. The wood fibers (>88%total volume by weight) shall be
held together by non-toxic tacWiers (minimum 8%) and mineral bona:ng agents
(<2%) which, upon drying, become insoluble and non-dispersible. ?'he matrix which
forms shall be designed, tested and proven to perform in a manner equal or superior
to biodegradable erosion control blankets. Documentation of testing at an industry
recognized laboratory shall be provided which demonstrates superior performance
as measured by reduced water runoff, reduced soil loss and better plant germination
as compared to erosion control blankets. The formed matrix shall meet the following
performance requirements:
1?
