TASK 2 DEMOLPITON
For purposes of the demolition task, all concrete structures located within the area
depicted on Map 3, Project Area, are subject to the requirements of this task, unless
otherwise specified.
There are two overall objectives of the demolition task. The first is to demolish concrete
and block wall building remnants and foundations, conveyor foundations, asphaltic pads
and similar materials which are located within the work areas. The second objective is
to remove the rubble produced by the demolition process to designated disposal sites.
Past demolition experience at Coal Basin indicates that substantial quantities of rebar
are present within most concrete structures.
The Mid-Continent Resources Mining Permit Application estimates that 50,000 cubic
yards of concrete and block wall materials are present within the Project Area. Note,
however, that this figure is an estimation only, CONTRACTORS are encouraged to
perform independent verification measurements in order to ascertain the true volume of
materials within the Project Area.
The Project Area encompasses the former location of a wash plant, thermal drier facility,
offices, parking areas, incidental buildings, conveyor belt route, and various other
structures. Foundations, footers, floors, previously demolished debris and asphaltic
parking areas are the dominant structures in place. Most of the building remnants and
previously demolished debris are composed of reinforced concrete, or of cinder block
like materials. Much of the southeastern portion of the work area is covered by asphalt.
All building remnants, including concrete, asphaltic materials and block wall materials
located within the Project Area must be demolished and disposed of. Demolition must
be accomplished to a depth of at least four feet R) below ground surface, as measured
immediately adjacent to any one structure.
Concrete foundations which supported the Sutey Refuse Disposal Area conveyor and
associated stacking equipment are located in the western portion of the Project Area, and
on the north side of Coal Creek.
In order to assure that all of the target materials are identified, demolished and disposed
of, the Project Area will be ripped by dozer to a depth of at least three feet (3).
Subsurface structures identified during the ripping of the site shall be demolished and
disposed of as described above. Failure to describe specific concrete or block wall
structures does not negate the requirement to complete demolition as per these
specifications.
