Payment shall be when this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER, after
removal of the power poles and ancillary equipment form the site. Such payment shall be
considered full compensation for all labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary
and incidental to the completion of Task 3, Power Pole Removal.
TASK 4 ROAD GRADING
Four road segments located near the north western portion of the Project Area require grading in
order to promote the desired post reclamation drainage pattern. Because some of the roads
have differing post-reclamation uses, the roads will be graded to different conditions. Three
roads will be backfilled, while one will be sloped and ripped.
Sutey Access and Belt Line Transfer Roads
See Map 3, Project Area, for the locations of these three road segments. Road segment lengths
are estimated to-be 1,850 feet at the Upper Sutey access road, 1,900 feet at the Lower Sutey
access road, 450 feet at the beltline transfer road. NOTE that this portion of Task 4 must be
accomplished in conjunction with Task 5, Culvert Removal.
These roads will be backfilled and graded so that the original contour of each area is
approximated. Material shall be excavated from the outslope of the roads and placed
onto the roadway in order to blend the hill slopes above and below the road segments.
The outslope excavation must not create a slope steeper than the naturally occurring
hill side at the point of excavation. Material placed on the roadway must be compacted
in two feet (2') lifts using a sheeps foot or pad foot roller. The fill shall extend to within
one foot (1') of the crest of the existing road cut. The slope of the fill shall not be
steeper than that of the slopes immediately above and below the fill area. All filled and
excavated areas shall be topsoiled and revegetated. During completion of the topsoil
application, a track hoe will be used to create gouges on the backfilled slopes. The
track hoe bucket will be used to gouge depressions in the slope, so that the excavated dirt is
pulled to the down hill side of the excavation. These gouges will be created so that there is no
more than a four feet (4') separation from the edge of one to the edge of the next in any direction.
The gouges shall be constructed so that they are offset, or overlap, vertically , so that runoff
water cannot flow uninterrupted down the backfilled slope (Figure 1, Soil Hummocks).
North West Sutey Access Road
See Map 3, Project Area, for the location of this road segment.
The estimated length of this road segment is 300 feet. NOTE that this portion of Task 4 must be
completed in conjunction with Task 6, Rolled Dip Construction.
The North West Sutey Access road shall be graded so that a five percent (5%) grade toward the
east is established for the length of the road. Care must be exercised so that dirt is not
introduced into the adjacent roadside ditch. Excavation adjacent to the ditch must be
accomplished by track hoe, back hoe or similar piece of equipment.
Upon completion of grading operations, the road segment will be ripped. The road shall be
ripped to a minimum depth of fifteen inches (15"). Rippers on a machine must not be set more
than thirty inches (30") center to center. The road segment will be ripped across the entire width
of the roadway. Ripping will be accomplished so that ripper lines are created at a thirty degree
11
