Prior to topsoil application, all areas to which topsoil will be applied will be ripped. The ground
surface will be ripped to a minimum depth of twelve inches (12") on no less than thirty inch (30")
centers. Ripping shall occur perpendicular to the fall of the slope. Topsoil will be spread to a
depth of six inches (6") over all areas subject to this Project, unless otherwise specified in
another Task. It is estimated that Xxx acres will be topsoiled. Therefore, approximately 00000
cubic yards of topsoil will be needed to achieve an average six inch (6") cover of soil over all
areas. Upon completion of the topsoil application, the surface of the soil shall be left in a
roughened condition.
Areas To Be Topsoiled, And Approximate Acreage:
Location Acreage
Sutey, Upper Access Road 1.3
Sutey, Lower Access Road 1.3
Belt Line Transfer Road 0.3
Ditch 8 Vicinity 0.3
Coal Refuse Pile 3.4
Area West Of Coal Refuse Pile 5.0
Area North of Coal Refuse Pile 0.8
Slope South Of Coal Refuse Pile 0.5
Old Coal Stockpile Area 2.0
Area East Of Road A 1.0
Rock Tunnel vicinity 1.0
Site and material conditions are such that extremely dusty conditions may result from the
excavation, hauling and deposition of topsoil materials. PROJECT MANAGER may require
CONTRACTOR to implement dust control procedures throughout the Project Area for the
duration of the Project. Such practices, such as applying water to work areas and roadways, are
considered to be normal construction practices, and shall not result in additional expense to
OWNER.
Coal Refuse Pile Roughening
CONTRACTOR will create a minimum of thirty five (35) small bumps or hummocks per acre on
the slopes of the coal refuse area. These features will be constructed in a random pattern
across the slope. A two foot (2') minimum overlap of the edges of the hummocks is required
(see Figure 3, Soil Hummocks). These bumps or hummocks will be the width of a dozer blade,
eight to ten feet (8' to 10') in width, by six to eight inches (6"to 8") in height. The axis of these
features will be constructed perpendicular to the fall of the slope. The top of the refuse disposal
area will be roughened as described below.
Special Surface Roughening Specifications
Most areas disturbed during reclamation will be subject to severe surface roughening following
topsoil application. In order to accomplish the degree of severity of roughening required, the
following will be accomplished by CONTRACTOR:
- Apply Topsoil;
- Apply two (2) tons per acre weed free straw mulch;
- Scarify the surface by using a bucket to gouge or pull the topsoil and mulch toward
19
