(18") centers. Ripping shall occur perpendicular to the fall of the slope at any one location.
Small undulations will be built on the ground surface in this area following topsoil application.
These features will be constructed in lieu of the severe surface roughening described in Task 10,
Topsoil Application and Surface Roughening. These undulations will be approximately twelve
feet (12') in length and two feet (2') in height. A crest of at least one foot (1') will be created.
Side slopes shall be no steeper than 2.5HA V. Thirty such hills shall be created in a random
pattern throughout this area.
Area North of Coal Refuse Pile
This area will be graded so that a slight gradient to the north is created, causing rain fall and
snow melt to drain as sheet flow north toward Coal Creek. Some cut of the southern Coal Creek
embankment may be necessary to achieve the required fall. The entire area will be ripped to
twelve inches (12") depth on eighteen inch (18") centers. Ripping shall occur perpendicular to
the fall of the slope at any one location. Following ripping and topsoil application, small
undulations will be built on the ground surface in this area for a distance of seventy five feet (75')
from the toe of the coal refuse pile slope. No such features will be constructed between this
seventy five feet boundary and the crest of Coal Creek to the north. These features will be
constructed in lieu of the severe surface roughening described in Task 10, Topsoil Application
and Surface Roughening. These undulations will be approximately twelve feet (12') in length and
two feet (2') in height. A crest of at least one foot (1') will be created. Side slopes shall be no
steeper than 2.51-1:1 V. Thirty such hills shall be created in a random pattern throughout this area.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a lump sum
bid under Item 8 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs for removal of
stockpiled topsoil, distribution of topsoil onto the affected areas of the Project Area, roughening
of soil. Such payment shall be considered full compensation for all labor, materials, equipment
and all other items necessary and incidental to the placement of topsoil as directed and
described in the specifications. Payment for this task will be made only for the unit price shown
under Item 8 of the Bid Schedule. Payment shall be as this task is completed and approved by
the PROJECT MANAGER.
TASK 9 TOPSOIL APPLICATION AND SURFACE ROUGHENING
Topsoil will be applied to most of the areas disturbed during completion of this Project. Areas to
be topsoiled include the Upper and Lower Sutey access roads, the Ditch 8 area, the coal refuse
pile located at the former location of the wash plant, the Old Coal Stockpile area located near the
second switchback of Road A, and all other areas affected during Task 8, Earth Work.
NOTE that topsoil application at the Upper and Lower Sutey access roads is to be accomplished
during completion of Task 4, Road Grading. Topsoil application specifications for these two
areas are contained in this Task description, and payment will also be made under this Task.
Topsoil application of the area adjacent to Ditch 8 (areas outside of the Ditch 8 liner) will be
described, measured and paid under this Task.
Upon completion and PROJECT MANAGER approval of Task 8, Earth Work, and any other
tasks which must be accomplished prior to topsoil application, topsoil will be applied to the
various features subject to this Project. Topsoil will be derived from the topsoil stockpile located
immediately west of the Sutey Topsoil Stockpile (Map 3, Project Area).
18
