inches (8") on no less than thirty inch (30") centers. Ripping shall occur perpendicular to the fall
of the slope. These channel margins will be seeded with seed provided by PROJECT
MANAGER at the rate specified in Table 1, Mine Site Seed.
The lower portion of Ditch 8 will be trapezoidal in shape, having a bottom width of not less than
five feet (5'). Minimum depth shall be two feet (2'). Side walls shall be no steeper than 2.5H:1 V.
Topsoil, derived from the topsoil stockpile located to the west of the Sutey Refuse pile, will be
evenly applied to the channel at a two inch (2") depth. In order to achieve successful application
of the liner, specified below, it will be necessary to remove clods and rock from the surface of the
soil. A flat, uniformly rock- and dip- free soil surface must be established prior to installation of
the lower liner, in order to ensure a positive contact between the soil surface and the liner. The
mat shall consist of a two layer system. The lower liner shall by non-woven textile fabric which
will not inhibit vegetative growth. The upper liner shall consist of an excelsior liner containing
aspen wood, and bonded by a ultra violet stabilized mesh. Permamat 200F or approved
equivalent is required.
After initial excavation of the channel, soil shall be placed at to the specified depth, and raked as
necessary to achieve the required degree of uniformity. The lower liner shall then be installed
over the smooth soil surface. CONTRACTOR shall install Permamat 200F soil stabilization mat,
or approved equivalent, in the channel, per manufacturers specifications, except that check slots
shall be required at be installed at thirty feet (30') intervals, rather than at the manufacturer
specified spacing of fifty feet (50'). Overlap of adjacent mats shall be six inches (6") rather than
three inches (3").
After installation of the lower liner, an additional two inches (2") of soil shall be placed over the
top of the lower liner. Rocks, clods, dips and sharp bumps will be removed from the soil surface
to ensure a positive contact between the soil cover and the overlying blanket. Raking of the soil
surface may be required in order to achieve the desired degree of uniformity. The seed and
fertilizer may not be applied until a uniform surface has been achieved.
Upon completion of topsoiling, diammonium phosphate fertilizer(18-46-0) shall be applied at a
rate of 300 pounds per acre. Seed, to be provided by PROJECT MANAGER, will be broadcast
applied at the rate of ten pounds (10#) per acre.
After seeding and fertilization is complete, a soil stabilization mat, or upper liner, shall be
installed. Permamat 200f is supplied with an upper liner. If a different liner system is proposed
for use, the upper liner must be equivalent to a temporary stabilization blanket such as Xcel
Excelsior Blanket- Superior.
Upon completion of all other Tasks associated with this Project, the old Ditch 8 will be backfilled
using the material excavated from the newly constructed ditch 8. The material will be placed
within the confines of the newly constructed channel, and compacted in place using a heavy
dozer. The ground surface elevation of the filled old ditch must exceed the elevation of the top of
the western side of the new ditch 8 by at least one foot (1'). If necessary, CONTRACTOR will
import sufficient excess material in order to accomplish this elevation difference.
When the old Ditch 8 is completely backfilled, the small drainage ditches which traverse the
south facing side of the Sutey Pile will be extended across the backfill at their current grade, and
tied into the newly constructed Ditch 8. These ditches shall be inclined into the hillside at a
twenty five percent 25% angle.
15
