Old Coal Storage Area
An approximately one hundred fifty feet (150') long drainage ditch will be constructed from the
southern portion of the Old Coal Storage area, south across Road A and down the inside portion
of the road to the pond located outside of the first Road A switchback.
The ditch will be triangular in shape. The ditch will have a minimum depth of eighteen inches
(18") at its center. Side slopes will be no steeper than 3H:1 V. The ditch will have a gradient of
no steeper than four percent (4%), except where it is located adjacent to Road A below the low
water crossing, where its gradient will match that of Road A.
A low water crossing will be constructed at the Road A crossing of this ditch in order that
vehicular traffic may still access the upper portions of this road. This low water crossing shall be
built, and paid for, under Task 7, Low Water Crossings.
Rock Dump Channel
An approximately three hundred and fifty feet (350') long drainage channel will be constructed on
the Rock Dump in order to convey runoff from the top and north side of the facility to the large
swale on the south side of the pile. PROJECT MANAGER will stake the location of the channel
in the field prior to initiation of work.
The channel will be trapezoidal in shape, having a two feet (2') bottom width and side slopes no
steeper than 3H:1 V. The minimum depth of the channel shall be two feet (2') as measured from
the bottom of the channel to the adjacent ground surface.
NOTE that the Rock Dump Channel construction must be completed and seeded within the first
ten (10) days after receipt of the Notice to Proceed.
Measurement and Payment
Channels will be measured to the nearest linear foot. Measurement for payment will consist of
physically measuring the length of each channel installed. Payment for this task will be paid for
at prices established in Item 7 A, B, C, D of the Bid Schedule per linear foot installed. Such
payment shall be considered full compensation for all labor, materials, equipment and all other
items necessary and incidental to the construction of the channels to the specifications, including
furnishing and placing liners, and placement of topsoil, distribution of seed and provision and
installation of fertilizer as directed and described in the specifications. Topsoil application and
revegetation of the area outside the footprint of the perimeter liner, shall be made pursuant to
Tasks 9 and 10, respectively. Payment will be as this task is completed and approved by the
PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for this task will be made only for the unit prices shown under
Item 7 A, B, C, D of the Bid Schedule.
TASK 8 EARTH WORK
The goal of this task is to create suitable land forms within the various portions of the Project
Area (Map 3, Project Area).
Coal Refuse Disposal Area
In order to accomplish the desired landform, approximately 5,465 cubic yards of material will be
cut from the outside margin of the second switchback of Road A (Map 3, Project Area). This
north facing slope is located directly behind, or south of, the coal refuse disposal area.
Excavation of this slope will generate material which will be pushed to the north, covering the
16
