Sediment Control, Road E Culvert Removal
CONTRACTOR shall properly install either silt fence or straw bales (see Figures and ) at
the base of the work area adjacent to the North Fork of Dutch Creek in order to minimize the
amount of dirt which is lost into the creek. This will be accomplished and paid as a part of Task
3, Culvert Removal, and is not included as part of Task 11, Post Construction Sediment Control.
Straw bales, if selected for use as sediment control, must be certified as weed free or weed seed
free (see the requirements of Task 10, Revegetation) shall be placed adjacent to each stream at
the base of each side slope created during performance of this Task. A trench measuring four
inches (4") deep, by the width of the bales, by the length of the side slope cuts shall be
excavated at the base of each side slope cut. The base of the trench shall be smooth and free
of large rock so that the bales may be placed in direct contact with the ground surface. Each
bale shall be anchored using two wood stakes per bale. The bales shall be placed so that any
one bale is in direct contact with the adjacent bale (s). Silt fence, if selected for use as sediment
control, shall be installed as per Figure
Both Work Areas
All culvert materials or scrap encountered shall be collected and transported from the mine site
for disposal by CONTRACTOR. Extracted culverts may be temporarily stockpiled near the main
gate to the Coal Basin Mine. All extracted culverts must be removed from the site prior to
submitting for payment upon completion of this task.
Measurement and Payment
Payment for completion of this task will be per culvert removed. The number and location of the
culverts to be removed will be established by PROJECT MANAGER prior to this Task being
initiated. Payment for removal of the culverts will be made at the unit price established in Item 3
of the Bid Schedule. Such payment will be considered full compensation for all equipment and
labor needed to accomplish removal of the designated culverts, including backfilling and
compaction of the excavations. Payment shall be as this task is completed and approved by the
PROJECT MANAGER.
TASK 4 ROAD GRADING
Four road segments located near the north western portion of the Project Area require grading in
order to promote the desired post reclamation drainage pattern. Because some of the roads
have differing post-reclamation uses, the roads will be graded to different conditions. Three
roads will be backfilled, while one will be sloped and ripped. See Map 3, Project Area, for the
locations of these road segments.
Sutey Access and Belt Line Transfer Roads
Road segment lengths are estimated to be 1,850 feet at the Upper Sutey access road, 1,900 feet
at the Lower Sutey access road, 450 feet at the beltline transfer road. NOTE that this portion of
Task 4 must be accomplished in conjunction with Task 3, Culvert Removal.
These roads will be backfilled and graded so that the original contour of each area is
approximated. Material shall be excavated from the outslope of the roads and placed onto the
roadway in order to blend the hill slopes above and below the road segments. The outslope
excavation must not create a slope steeper than the naturally occurring hill side at the point of
excavation. Material placed on the roadway must be compacted in two foot (2') lifts. The fill
11
