Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a lump sum
bid under Item 2 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs for debris collection,
disposal, building removal, and concrete demolition and disposal. Payment shall be as this task
is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Such payment shall be considered full
compensation for all labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary and incidental to
the completion of Task 2, Demolition.
TASK 3 CULVERT REMOVAL
Wash Plant Area
Approximately seven (7) road drainage culverts are located on the roads in the vicinity of the
Wash Plant and Sutey Refuse Pile. Project Manager will locate each culvert to be removed and
place lathe and flagging at each prior to construction. Excepting the thirty six inch (36") diameter
culvert located on the main Sutey access road near the confluence of Ditches 1 and 8, the
culverts are generally eighteen to twenty four inches (18" to 24") in diameter. These culverts are
constructed of corrugated metal°pipe (CMP) in almost all instances. Generally, road drainage
culverts are buried by three feet (T) or less of ground cover at the inlet
Culverts shall be excavated and removed from the site. All head walls, down drains or other
structures associated with the culverts shall be removed during reclamation. The trenches which
result from the extraction process shall be backfilled to the original ground surface elevation.
The backfill will be mechanically compacted in one foot (1') lifts. However, the excavation of the
large main Sutey access road culvert (36" culvert) by Ditches 1 and 8 does not need to be
backfilled, as a low water crossing shall be constructed at this location (Task 6).
Rock Tunnel Vicinity
The Road E culvert is an approximately ten feet (10') diameter corrugated metal pipe culvert,
located approximately 150 feet north of the Lamp House on the North Fork of Dutch Creek (Map
3, Project Area). The dirt overlying the culvert, and the dirt to be excavated from the sides of the
culvert will be removed to the hillside adjacent to Road E, approximately seventy five feet (75')
south of the culvert location. This material shall be placed and compacted against the hillside in
horizontal lifts, to be compacted in two foot (2') intervals. The outslopes of the fill shall be no
steeper than 2.5HA V. The north and south margins of the fill slope shall be graded so that they
blend into the adjacent hill slopes
The culvert shall be removed from the Project Area by CONTRACTOR, who may either keep the
culvert, or properly dispose of it in a licensed disposal facility.
Excavation and removal of the culvert shall be accomplished so that the gradient of the channel
floor above and below the former location of the culvert match when this Task is completed. The
slopes on the sides of the culvert shall be excavated to a configuration no steeper than 3H:1V.
The excavated material and the cuts created during removal of the culvert will be roughened (see
Task 9, Topsoil Application and Surface Roughening), and revegetated. The surfaces of the
stream sides above the high water line shall be left in a roughened condition, and revegetated.
These areas will not be topsoiled.
10
