A number of previously-existing buildings located at Mine 3, the Intermediate Coal Transfer
Area and the Lower Bench Area have been demolished to the point that only the concrete and
block wall portions of the buildings remain. The majority of these structures are located at
the Mine 3 entry area. CONTRACTOR will demolish the remaining concrete and block wall
building remnants, foundations, slabs and other such structures. The building and facility
remnants generally consist of concrete walls, floors and foundations. Some of the buildings
may be concrete block in composition. The building and facility remnants may be reinforced
with rebar. All of the walls, floors and foundations, to a depth of three feet below ground
surface, must be demolished and removed to the base of the highwall.
All other rubble and assorted debris will be removed from the bench area and placed at the
base of the highwall so that no materials remain on the bench except at the base of the
highwall.
The concrete and block wall materials and rubble shall be placed against the Mine 3 highwall,
filling the depression at the north portion of the bench adjacent to the highwall first. After
the depression is filled to ground level (as measured from the bench surface immediately east
of the depression), remaining materials, if any, shall be evenly spread at the base of the
highwall along its length. All of the debris and rubble shall be covered by a minimum of four
(4) feet of backfill material during Task 4 (Earth Work), portion of the project.
A number of concrete foundations, which may be reinforced with rebar, are present along the
old conveyor corridor which extended from the mine bench down the face of the slope
through the Intermediate Coal Transfer Area to the Lower Bench Area. Other foundation
materials may also be present at these two locations. The foundations shall be removed to
three (3) feet below the ground surface during the demolition task. Rubble may be removed
to either the Mine 3, Intermediate Coal Transfer or Lower Bench backfill areas, and placed
against the highwall remnant for burial as discussed in Task 4, Earth Work.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a lump
sum bid under Item 2 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs for
structural demolition and removal of rubble and debris from the bench and conveyor areas to
the respective disposal areas. Payment shall be as this task is completed and approved by
the PROJECT MANAGER.
TASK 3 SILT FENCING
Sediment containment fences will be Mirafi Prefabricated Silt Fence with Posts, or approved
equivalent. Silt fence will be installed as per manufacturers specifications with 3 feet
between posts. Silt fence will be placed at various locations to minimize the transportation
of sediment from each disposal facility and will be paid for under Task 3. Placement of silt
fencing will occur concurrently with grading operations. It is estimated that 800 feet of silt
fence will be installed at Mine 3; 200 feet at the Intermediate Coal Transport Area, and 400
feet at the Lower Bench Area. The silt fence will remain after project work is completed.
7
