The PROJECT MANAGER will notify the CONTRACTOR if additional silt fencing must be
provided and installed.
Measurement and Payment
Sediment containment fences will be measured to the nearest linear foot. Payment for this
task will be paid for at prices established in Task 3 of the Bid Schedule per linear foot
installed. Such payment shall be considered full compensation for all labor, materials,
equipment and all other items necessary and incidental to the furnishing and placement of the
Sediment containment fences as directed and described in the specifications. Payment will
be as this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for this task
will be made only for the unit price shown under Task 3 of the Bid Schedule.
TASK 4 EARTHWORK
The earthwork portion of this Bid involves the reclamation of the Mine 3 highwall. Highwalls
will also be reclaimed through partial backfilling at the Intermediate Coal Transfer Area and
at the Lower Bench Area. Earthwork is broken into three subtasks: Task 4a - Mine 3, Task
4b - Mine 3 Intermediate Coal Transfer Area, and Task 4c - Mine 3 Lower Bench Area.
Task 4a - Mine 3
The goal Task 4a is to accomplish partial backfilling of the Mine 3 highwall. The material to
be backfilled against the highwall will be obtained from the outslope of the existing mine
bench (Map 4, Mine 3 Bench Area Topography). The outslope consists of material derived
from the development of the highwall. The material to be excavated from the mine bench
outslope is composed of weathered sandstone, shale and coal materials.
Material will be excavated from the north and south facing mine bench outslopes, and will be
removed as uniformly as possible across the face of the outslopes. The CONTRACTOR shall
excavate materials from the mine bench outslopes so that the downslope extent of the
excavation maintains as uniform an elevation as possible. Excavation shall proceed so that
the excavated portion of the outslopes do not exceed 21-1:1 V upon completion of Task 3.
Excavation and filling operations shall begin at the north side of the mine bench area and
proceed toward the south. The material excavated from the outslopes shall be transported
to the base of the highwall and placed over the rubble fill and the mine bench remnant. All
of the debris and rubble shall be covered by a minimum of four (4) feet of backfill material.
The top of the backfill will extend thirty (30) feet above the highwall bench. The highwall will
be marked in the field by the PROJECT MANAGER by paint or other suitable means at the
thirty (30) foot level. This thirty (30) feet backfill height will be maintained for the length of
the highwall except where reduced by the PROJECT MANAGER. The highwall is estimated
to be approximately 800 feet in length. The fill shall be compacted in six (6) foot lifts by a
sheep's foot roller. The outslope of the fill shall not exceed 2H:1 V.
8
