Site Reclamation Activity
4/94 - 3/95
Page 5
SUNNYSIDE BASIN (LAKE EMMA) AREA - Plate No. 2
During the 1994 reporting year, an additional 1 . 74 acres were
disturbed to provide access to repair sideslopes on the west side
of permit area (item 2) . Reclamation work at the site consisted
of;
1) refilling the area of subsidence over the Lake Emma hole back
to grade. The fill material was obtained from the stockpile
left for this purpose.
2) contour repair work in the area on the west side of the permit
area that was not previously completed. This work was not
completed.
3) repair work on erosional areas. This work consisted of rock
armoring areas of erosion. It appears that ice dams build in
drainage paths causing concentrated drainage down slopes that
should not be subject to concentrated flows based on dry
ground contours.
4) expansion of the area that was previously planted and adding
amendment (limestone) , seed and mulch.
Limestone added varied from 1 ton/acre to 2 tons/acre to bring
the areas up to that needed for long-term buffering
requirements. Seeding was with the Lake Emma mix (attached in
Appendix) at a rate of 15 lbs/acre.
Hay mulch was used at a rate of one ton/acre.
Growth was fair to good for the elevation of the site from the
1993 fall planting.
5) monitoring of subsidence points above the open pit highwalls.
The results are in the Appendix and show no significant
changes. This monitoring is no longer thought necessary by
Sunnyside as the areas have been stabilized. A request will
be made to cease subsidence monitoring.
Planned activity for 1995 includes;
1) completion of contouring on the west side of the Lake Emma
hole.
2) refilling from the stockpile any subsidence of the Lake Emma
backfill.
3) additional seeding and mulching.
4) construction of safety barriers around or over a historic
stope on the north side of the permit area.
