Site Reclamation Activity 4/94 - 3/95 Page 6 TAILINGS POND #4 - Plate No. 3 During the 1994 reporting year, an additional 1 .15 acres were disturbed to contour the backslopes of the interception ditch above the pond. Reclamation activity at this site consisted of ; 1) contouring the backslope of the realigned stormwater/ groundwater interception ditch above the pond. Most of this backslope was seeded and mulched as construction progressed. 2) removing the haul road between Tailings Pond #2 and the Tailings, Pond #4 borrow area. The recontoured area was then seeded and mulched. 3) reworking small patches of sideslope with weak vegetation or that were mostly barren. It was determined that these areas were too acidic for vegetation due to a lens of pyrite in the overburden used for cover . These areas were neutralized with limestone and then covered with topsoil to limit contact with oxygen. They were then seeded and mulched. 4) fertilization of the established vegetation with liquid fertilizer (17N 8P 2K) at a rate of 50 gal/acre. 5) planting of aspen bunches throughout the area where additional disturbance is not foreseen. 6) usage of this site to contain material removed from the American Tunnel settling ponds, historic Lead Carbonate tailings, American Tunnel waste dump and material removed from the Terry Tunnel settling ponds. 7) planting of fireweed and lupine seeds across the area. The seed used in this area was the Mountain Mix (attached in Appendix) applied at a rate of 22 lbs/acre and hay mulch applied at a rate of 1 ton/acre. Planned activity for 1995 includes; 1) maintenance of the area' s growth as required. Fertilization and/or amendment utilization is planned to be minimal . 2) usage of the area for deposition of material removed from the American Tunnel and Terry Tunnel settling ponds and other site reclamation waste material.
