Site Reclamation Activity
4/95 - 3/96
Page 10
BULKHEADS - TR-14 / TR-16
Activity on this project during the 1995 reporting year consisted
of;
1) the continuation of the seep, spring and flowing adit
inventory required by TR-14 . Twenty percent of the sites were
required to be sampled and all sites monitored for field
parameters twice. SGC monitored and sampled each site twice
(if flow existed) during the reporting year.
2) the removal of equipment and other materials from the mine to
prepare for final bulkhead construction in the American Tunnel
3) construction and grouting of the American Tunnel bulkhead.
4) continued negotiations with CDPHE for a settlement agreement
to provide an acceptable path to both parties for valve
closure and final release from SGC's tunnel discharge CDPS
permits. These negotiations were ongoing at the end of the
reporting year. The final document went to public comment and
was finally signed by WQCD on May 6, 1996 and entered by the
Court (to settle SGC's request for Declaratory Judgement) on
May 8, 1996. This is in the form of a Consent Decree and
Order that provides for SGC to perform listed Mine Remediation
Project's (MRP's) under inspection of DMG for compliance with
the work plans for each MRP.
Planned activity for 1996 includes;
1) valve closures and bulkhead monitoring.
2) continuation of the seep, spring and flowing adit inventory
according to TR-14 .
3) implementation of the provisions of the Consent Decree and
Order.
