Site Reclamation Activity
April 1999 - March 2000
Page 5
Hwy. 110, grading and forming a ditch (with fill material from
the borrow area behind Pond No.4) , lining the ditch with 30
mil liner and covering the liner with sub-soil material. The
disturbed area was then seeded with the MLR Mountain Mix (mix
sheet included in Appendix A) and mulched with grass hay.
Completion of this project allows surface run-off to exit the
site instead of infiltrating through tailings material.
4) extension of the Tailings Pond No. 4 upland groundwater
interception and diversion coverage up-slope of Tailings Pond
No.4. This work included removing overburden material down to
a clay layer and placing a lined ditch at the overburden-clay
contact to intercept water traveling along this contact. The
intercepted water will be carried around the tailings material
by the lined run-off diversion ditch along the pond-hillside
contact. The lined ditch was covered with overburden material
and planted with the MLR Mountain Mix. This project is a
Consent Decree project and was also approved in TR-21. Because
of weather at the end of the construction season when this
project was completed, some completion work may be required in
the 2000 report year.
Planned activity for 2000 includes;
1) maintenance and/or completion of the water diversion projects
approved in TR-21 and implemented during the 1999 report year.
2) monitoring and maintenance of the vegetation. This may include
an extension of the test program of placing composted steer
manure to improve vegetation health.
TAILINGS POND #3 AREA - Plate No. 3
Activity at this site consisted of;
1) maintenance of stormwater sediment catchment.
2) monitoring and maintenance of the vegetation.
Planned activity for 2000 includes;
1) monitoring and maintenance of vegetation.
2) potential improvement of drainage pathways.
