Site Reclamation Activity
April 1999 - March 2000
Page 4
SUNNYSIDE BASIN (LAKE EMMA) AREA - Plate No. 2
During the 1999 reporting year, no additional acreage was disturbed
or reclaimed.
Activity at the site consisted of;
1) refilling the area of subsidence over the Lake Emma hole back
to grade. The fill material was obtained from the stockpile
left for this purpose.
2) erosion tracks along the west side water drainage path were
repaired. It appears that winter ice blocks the drainage path
and causes the initial spring thaw surge to travel over land
creating erosion paths. The repaired area was reseeded.
Planned activity for 2000 includes;
1) refilling to grade any subsidence of the Lake Emma backfill.
2) monitoring and maintenance of the planted areas.
3) alkaline injection into the mine pool if the project is
extended into the 2000 season.
TAILINGS POND No.4 - Plate No. 3
During the 1999 reporting year no additional acreage was disturbed
or reclaimed.
Activity at this site consisted of;
1) usage for containment of material removed from the
American Tunnel water treatment settling ponds. DMG (Inactive
Mines Program) placed approximately 1900 cubic yards of mine
waste from the Carbon Lakes remediation project in the pond
which allowed Sunnyside to bring a small area to final grade.
This area was then capped and planted. The mine waste material
was neutralized with limestone upon placement (letter report
by DMG included in Appendix A) .
2) monitoring and maintenance of the vegetation. Composted steer
manure was spread over a small area as a test to determine if
vegetation health and vitality would be materially improved.
3) implementation of the Consent Decree Tailings Pond No.4
Drainage Modification Project. This project was approved in
TR-21 and consisted of placement of a drainage culvert under
