Site Reclamation Activity
Page 8
ENGINEERING OFFICE SETTLING PONDS - Plate No. 3
Activity at this site during the 1993 reporting year consisted of:
1) placing a 12" - 18" overburden layer over a large portion of
this area. This was done because of several failed attempts
to establish vegetation in this area. It is believed that
failure was due mostly to soil texture. The overburden was
obtained from the designated borrow area by Tailings Pond #4.
After covering, the area was seeded with the Mountain Mix at
a rate of 22 lbs/acre and covered with hay mulch at a rate of
1 ton/acre.
2) constructing a drainage path across the site for Hwy 110
drainage ditch flow to pass through the site. This path was
then rock armored with 2" - 8" rock to prevent erosion.
3) fertilization of established vegetation (areas not requiring
overburden cover) with liquid fertilizer (7 . 17N 5. 38P 8 . 96K) .
Planned activity for the 1994 reporting year consists of:
1) monitoring and maintenance of vegetation.
MAYFLOWER MILL AREA - Plate No. 3
Activity at this site during the 1993 reporting year consisted of:
1) general site cleanup.
2) regrading of backslopes that were not completed previously.
3) seeding the regraded areas with the Mountain Mix at a rate of
22 lbs/acre and then covering with hay mulch at a rate of 1
ton/acre. Selected areas were also treated with limestone at
a rate of 2 tons/acre.
4) fertilizing vegetation established previously with liquid
fertilizer (7 . 17N 5. 38P 8 . 96K) .
Planned activity for the 1994 reporting year consists of:
1) monitoring and maintenance of vegetation.
2) either working out plans for donating the mill to the San
Juan County Historical Society for non-mining use or develop
plans for removal as required for reclamation in the MLR
reclamation plan.
