The half-culvert suspended over the surface subsidence in the
water diversion trench south of the Fake Emma hole appears to be
transporting the drainage water past the subsidence as intended.
Some settlement was observed through the year but not nearly as
much as expected. Plans are to continue observing the site for
settlement with permanent repair to probably take place during
the reclamation of the Lake Emma hole:'-'"_
Subsidence monitoring above the open pits was continued. Survey
results are included in Append--ix A. No major movement has taken
place although some of the results are erratic. Further
monitoring is required for evaluation of results. Planned
activity for 1990 in Sunnyside Basin includes the following:
(1) Removal of the road constructed to the No Name portal and
permanent closure of the portal . In the reclamation plan
(TR 07) for the No Name, only the new road was to be removed
but the old road serves no useful purpose and will be
removed below the No Name portal .
(2) Permanent closure of the Sunnyside portal. through
backfillinq as committed to in TR-07 .
(3) Treat the waste rock stockpiles with ProMac in June and
October and monitor the effectiveness of this treatment as a
temporary acid mitigation plan.
(4 ) Monitor the revegetation test plot and the results of
seeding the overburden stockpiles.
(5) Monitor the subsidence in the diversion trench for
stability.
(6) Submit a Technical Revision request for permanently sealing
the hole in the Sunnyside Open Pit floor and perform the 1
work. %
(7) Work with the MLRD on approval of a reclamation plan for at\ ry M
least one of the open pits . ! t
Tailings Pond #4 Area - Plate No. 3
The construction method for Tailings Pond #4 was changed as
outlined in TR-09 and the water recycle system was operational
for a portion of the reporting year .
The monuments for monitoring settlement were set during the last
quarter of 1989 after completion of construction and were
surveyed during the lst quarter of 1990 as part of the stability
monitoring plan. The results will be submitted to Knight -
Piesold and Co. for evaluation as committed to for Stipulation
.No. 12 of the approval for TR-09. The survey data is included in
_ Appendix A for review. Cursory review of the data gives the
impression that movement has been minimal . The vibrating wire
piezometers are scheduled for placement after the drainage net
placement is complete.
-4-
