Tailings Pond No. 4 Area - Plate No. 3
The outslopes were planted with the "Mountain Mix" seed mixture
(seed mixture analysis included in Appendix) specified in the
permit for borrow areas . Prior to seeding, the area was treated
with 0 . 9 tons per acre of limestone and after seeding the area
was fertilized with liquid fertilizer 20-20-40 lbs/acre . The=
seed rate was approximately 22 ] bs/acre applied along with a
mixture of gaper mulch at a rate of 2000 lbs/acre and 40 lbs/acre
of tackifier by a hvdroseeder . Results on two-tnirds of the pond
look good. The rema-inina one-third was disappointinq. This area
was probably over-compacted during construction and has since
been harrowed for reseeding.
The drainage net was installed in Nov-Dec of 1990 with the
recycle pipeline outside the pond being completed in the Spring
of 1991 .
Stability monitoring is onqoing with oversight by Knight-Piesold
and Co. (Cursory review report by Knight-Piesold included in
Appendix) .
The recycle water system was operational for the total reporting
year . r water balance is included in the Appendix as required by
Stipulation 13 of ^R-09, although no effort was made to quantify
contribution by precipitation and ground or surface water inflow
or losses in products shipped , evaporation, leakage or as
moisture content of deposited tailings.
A TRF is ongoing on the discharge from this site also because of
sporadic toxicity experienced in quarterly samples . Because of
the sporadic nature of the toxicity, pinpointing the cause will
probably be difficult.
Planned activity for the 1991 reporting year includes the
following:
(1 ) Maintenance of the vegetation on the outslopes by
fertilizing (if required) and replanting of the area that
was harrowed because of minimal germination.
(2) Installation of a system to reduce wind erosion on the dry
beach area. This will be a piping system connected to the
recycle water system and a water aun for spraying the beach
area as needed .
Tailings Pond No. 3 Area - Plate No. 3
Tailings Pond No. 3 was used as a spill catchment for the
tailings booster pump located at the site.
- 4 -
