RECLAMATION PLAN EXHIBIT E (cont)
will be carried out in such a way, so as to establish a diverse,
effective and long- lasting vegetative cover that is capable of
self- regeneration without continued dependence on irrigation,
soil amendments or fertilizers. The plan is designed to create a
vegetative cover that is at least equal in extent to the cover of
the natural vegetation before mining and provide the improvements
the landowners want to the rangeland when mining ends. We have
choosen to use a NRCS seed mix commonly recommended for
revegetating disturbed areas in this part of Las Animas County.
The landowner and Tamrock Gravel LLC. have used this mix success-
fully on the surrounding property and other mines in the County.
The revegetation plan provides for the greatest probability of
success in plant establishment and vegetative development by
considering environmental factors such as seasonal patterns of
precipitation, temperatures and wind. Other considerations, such
as soil texture, fertility and slope stability have been consid-
ered. The RECLAMATION PLAN MAPS show the areas that will be reveg-
etated on the site.
Seed will be drilled wherever possible, when drilling is not
possible, the seed will be broadcast. In areas where it may be
necessary to broadcast seed, the seed amounts will be doubled.
Since the intended use of the reclaimed land is rangeland, the
level areas will be restored to rates commensurate with such use.
A weed control plan is included in this application to address
noxious weed control.
Some internal roads may be left on the areas to be planted
to provide access for planting crews and for the supervision and
inspection of the completed reclamation. Only the main access
road on the east and the central road through the site for the
Hude property access will remain when mining ends to ensure the
owner's have access to their property. It should be noted that
oil and gas companies use the eastern most road to access gas
wells and facilities located on adjoining property north of the
site. Final grading on the road will be done before the pit is
closed.
FERTILIZER
The operator may have to apply fertilizers to the seedbed
before planting to enhance the natural nutrients in the soil.
The fertilizer will then be worked into the soil prior to seed-
ing. At the beginning of the second year the topsoiled areas may
15
