MINING PLAN EXHIBIT D (coNT)
soils on the site. It is a soil complex containing properties of
each soil in the group. In general this soil is described as
shallow and well drained, varying in depth from 0 to 26 inches.
Only the upper 4 to 6 inches would be suitable for topsoil. On
this site this soil occupies most of the lower slopes or nearly
flat areas and is underlain by the rock that will be mined.
Origins of the soil are alluvium and residuum derived from shale
and silt stone. Neither of the soils on the site show character-
istics of the Trujillo series which is a sandstone alluvium not
found on the site.
Overlying the hard rock base is a thin layer of soil that
varies from zero to 6 inches, averaging 4 inches overall. The
upper 3 inches or overburden will also be salvaged for use in
reclamation. This will provide enough soil to cover the mined
area with an average of 7 inches of growth medium. Underlaying
the soil is a channery clay loam or hard blocky shale, varying
from 5 to 33 inches deep and can be used for root zone over the
underlying shale. This overburden material will be replaced on
the mine floor and resoiled leaving the site nearly flat.
The soils have no unusual qualities and are marginal for
agricultural purposes because of their limited depth, the growing
season and the topography of this site. Descriptions for each
soil are part of the NRCS report that is in ExHIBIT I/J of this
application. These descriptions are fairly consistent with what
is found on the site with the exception of the Trujillo Series
that does not exist here. Information on current vegetation is
also provided as part of the Soils report.
SITE INFORMATION
Of the 21.00 acres ± in the permit; 17.46 acres ± are to be
mined and 3.54 acres ± will be undisturbed areas located in
setbacks along the permit line. Please refer to the MININGTIMETA-
BLE on page 11 for the estimated acreage of the area associated
with the mining plan for this operation. The revegetation plan
and methods used in the area during reclamation are discussed in
EXHIBIT E - RECLAMATION PLAN .
Sufficient quantities of soil will be available to reclaim
the disturbed lands to their present condition. The soils in
this area may not be of the highest quality, but those salvaged
and replaced will represent what is there now. The topsoil
stockpiles will be located around the mine area on the final
5
