MINING PLAN EXHIBIT D (CONT)
EXHIBIT C -PRE- MINING MAP shows the outline of the mining area,
the touching landowners, easements and ROWS, the 200 foot owner-
ship, current topography, and hydrologic features of the prop-
erty. Surrounding property uses includes, rangeland, forested
areas and rural ranchetts. The closest house is approximately
2100 feet northwest of the mine.
The site will be accessed using an existing road currently
used to get to gas facilities and property north of the mine
site. The gas companies maintain the road as needed to allow
heavy equipment access and it will remain when reclamation ends.
GEOLOGIC SETTING
The affected lands are located on an east -west trending
ridge that is a member of the Raton Formation with a 0 -36 foot
thick intrusion or sill of basic igneous rock inserted between a
dark -gray silt stone on the bottom and a conglomerate on the top.
It is a gray to grayish -black Gabbro Porphyry found in sills,
dikes and plugs throughout the vicinity.
SOILS AND OVERBURDEN
See the soils and vegetation information for the soils
report prepared using the Natural Resources Conservation Service
Web Soil Service for the soils on this site. The soil informa-
tion prepared by this service is not site specific, it describes
in general terms the nature of the soils found at this site.
Soils on the proposed mine site tend to be fairly uniform
even thought the topography varies. This site contains 2 types
of soil according to the Soils Survey information; the Lorencito-
Rombo- Sarcillo Complex, 25 -60% slopes - Map symbol LRT, This
soil makes up approximately 3.7% of the soils on the site. It is
a soil complex containing properties of each soil in the group.
In general this soil is described as shallow, and well - drained
varying in depth from 0 to 26 inches. Only the upper 0 to 4
inches would be suitable for topsoil. On this site this soil
type occupies a small area on the very western side of the site.
This area is fairly steep, stoney and is underlain by the rock
that will be mined. Origins of the soil are alluvium and resid-
uum derived from shale and silt stone, probably eroded from the
material over the rock to be mined.
The Lorencito - Sarcillo- Trujillo Complex, 3 -25% slopes -
Map symbol LST. This soil makes up approximately 97.3% of the
4
