FROM :'NATURAL RESOURCES SEC. 303 866 3SS8 199S.10-10 11:19 #846 P.05/07
3Ci: 1 IUN 2
Explanation of Work Perfor med •►.,
Minor Revision #43, issued September 27, 1993, approved "rip-rap stabilization
in dutch Creek." Se-- photographs, Attachment 2-A.
2.3.2 Flume Prc ject
The Dutcr Creek flume is a concrete structure through which dutch
Creek, a F erennial stream, flows across the central yard area. The
concrete s tructure was installed some years ago to prevent
downcuttir g and erosion of the yard and nearby refuse pile by the
stream.
Abatemen, of Notice of Violation C-93-086 required that the flume be
patched tc prevent leakage. However, further work was needed to
ensure tht t problems not occur in future.
The Divisi m of Minerals and Geology approved a minor revision
(included :as Attachment 2 A) in the fall of 1993 for modifications to
the flume. The approved'plan called for installation of a supporting
pillar benE ath the flume structure to provide additional support;
installation i of a 9' diameter steel tube in the flume; installation of
headwalls to direct flows into the tube.
Completio i of the work approved in the plan required extensive work,
done at th a low flow period of the year, and was completed on
December 30, 1993. Further monitoring and maintenance of the
:,tructure was done the winter and spring of 1994.
A photographic record of the project is included at Attachment 2-B.
2.3.3 f Aaintenat,ce - Mine Site
Among the chief requirements for maintaining the mine site in
ompliance with applicable regulations was clean-out of sediment
ponds which had reached capacity. This entails removing the
Iccumulated sediment from the pond(s) by a dragline, and in turn
rucking tf a muck to an approved disposal area. The crew assisted
with move-in and set-up of the dragline, and hauled the muck, using
the dump i.rucks rented from Pitkin Iron.
2.3.4 fllaintenance/Repairs - Equipment
Page 4
