These areas have been limited to locations within the SGVLF where the steeper slopes
will not affect stability of the facility.
Underground workings are located within the footprint of the SGVLF. These workings
will be further examined and stabilized as necessary utilizing the methodologies
previously approved and certified for the construction of the AGVLF under previous
amendments and as described in Appendix 9, Volume V.
Cut material, if suitable for use as structural fill, will be used for site grading and
foundation preparation activities. Because a deficit of fill material currently exists,
overburden material will also be utilized. During construction, overburden material to be
used will be segregated to meet the 24 -inch maximum particle diameter specification for
structural fill.
A possible source of clay borrow material was found within the footprint of the SGVLF
as shown on Drawing C -4. This clay borrow material is overlain by 2 to 5 feet of
unsuitable material consisting of growth medium and clean sands and gravels that will
have to be removed to access the borrow material. The borrow area has been estimated
to contain approximately 500,000 yd of in -place clayey soils that may be used to
produce SLF. A portion of the potential borrow area underlies the proposed High Grade
Mill facilities platform and will require excavation and removal prior to construction of
the mill platform regardless of whether or not this material is used for the SLF.
A portion of the SGVLF will be constructed over the existing SGOSA. As part of the site
construction, the slopes of the SGOSA will be regraded to 2.0H:1 V. Given the particle
size distribution of materials within the SGOSA (boulders to sand size), there is a
potential for differential settlement to occur on the slope as the SGVLF is loaded with
ore. To reduce the impact of differential settlement, a three foot layer of structural fill
may be placed and compacted over the regraded slope. In some areas, geogrid and/or
geotextile may be placed on the regraded slope prior to placement of the structural fill.
The geosynthetic materials will help bridge gaps in the regraded slope and help distribute
the differential settlement.
7.2.2.4 Closure Drain and Boreholes to Diatreme
During foundation preparation activities, drilled shafts will be advanced a minimum of 10
feet into the diatreme to provide a preferential flow path after closure for flows from the
PSSA as discussed in Section 7.2.1.7. Prior to construction of the liner system for the
PSSA portion of the SGVLF, the closure drain connecting to the drilled shafts will also
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2
7 -10
