A lime silo is located after the secondary crushers. Lime is applied to the ore passing
near the base of the silo using an enclosed variable speed rotary lime feeder. The lime
addition rates are governed by the crushed ore conveyor belt scale to maintain a target
amount of lime per ton of ore that is crushed and placed on the VLFs.
5.6.2 Crushed Ore Conveyor to VLFs
After crushing and lime addition, the ore is delivered by conveyor to the LOB, passing by
a belt sampler to allow sampling of the ore. The ore is conveyed to the LOB where it is
loaded onto haul trucks for delivery to the VLFs. New haul roads will be constructed to
connect the LOB and the SGVLF.
5.7 Overburden Handling and Control
Rock without recoverable gold, but which must be removed to access the gold- bearing ore, is
called overburden. Overburden will be loaded from the mine areas for transport to one of two
OSAs or to an active backfilling area. The OSAs are designated as the SGOSA and the ECOSA.
Both OSAs will be modified as part of MLE2. Additionally, overburden may be utilized for the
construction of haul roads and other fills as required as part of the Cresson Project. Overburden
will be placed back into several of the mine areas upon completion of mining in those areas.
Mine backfilling activities will occur in the Main Cresson, East Cresson, and North Cresson
Mine areas. Upon completion of overburden placement, the SGOSA will blend with the
backfilled portion of the East and North Cresson Mine areas. Upon completion, the reclaimed
ECOSA will blend with backfilled portions of the East Cresson Mine areas.
5.7.1 Squaw Gulch Overburden Storage Area ( "SGOSA ")
General
The SGOSA configuration will change from the design approved as part of MLE.
Portions of the approved SGOSA and the approved SGOSA Extension will not be
constructed, and the overall footprint will be reduced to enable construction of the
SGVLF. Portions of the SGVLF will be underlain by the SGOSA as shown on Drawing
C -4a and discussed in Section 7.0 of the Project Description. The southern portion of the
existing SGOSA will be modified for use as the platform for construction of the High
Grade Mill facilities. A small amount of material which has already been placed in
SGOSA will be moved to accommodate mining in the Schist Island area. Material that
has been previously approved for placement in the SGOSA will be hauled to the
redesigned ECOSA or used in mine area backfilling.
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2
5 -17
