For MLE2, contractor activity would be utilized for utility support; construction
of the SGVLF, SGADR, and High Grade Mill facilities; growth medium salvage; growth
medium replacement during reclamation; and equipment maintenance as needed.
5.4.4 Drilling and Blasting
Overburden and ore will be drilled using track mounted drills. Individual drill pattern
spacing and depths may vary. The spacing will be determined by rock characteristics as
mining progresses and will change accordingly. Holes usually will be over drilled by
approximately five feet to accommodate typical bench heights. If bench heights vary, the
depth of the drill holes will also vary. Drill holes for blasting will be sampled and
assayed to confirm ore from overburden material.
Higher grade ore material will be closely mapped in each mine area and blasting will
occur to selectively blast the higher grade ore zones separately. The higher grade ore
material will be stockpiled in the mine areas and fed in weekly batches through the
crushing facilities, separated from other ore crushing.
After drilling, the blast holes will be loaded with detonators and boosters. The blasting
agent will be ammonium nitrate fuel oil ( "ANFO ") or emulsified ANFO, which will be
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2
5 -12
