Some of the species observed may occur in the area only due to the <br />presence of open water such as Mallard and Canada Goose. <br />The dense tamarisk thickets along Reed Wash provide perching and limited nesting habitat for <br />birds. However, the poor quality of the non - native tamarisk significantly reduces the potential <br />for greater species diversity and populations. Understory plant diversity is more abundant with <br />reed canarygrass and inland saltgrass forming the dominant vegetation. Other wetland species <br />include scattered patches of cattails, rushes and sedges. <br />Table 3.
