Doc Date:12/11/2001 ~'lllll'IIIIII III
/ ~ sss
5 ?.05.6 MITIGATION OF THE IMPACTS OF MINING OPERATIONS
• L (1) Air Pollution Control Plan \1
(al A copy of the applicants application for an air
pollution emission permit is enclosed as Exhibit 11.
(bl No other State or Federal air quality laws or
regulations apply to this mine operation other than the State
permit discussed in (al above.
(21 Fish and Wildlife Plan
(al (il Refer to Exhibit 10 which contains the Divi-
sion of Wildlife's statement for limited impact. The mining plan
provides for the minimum amount of disturbance possible consist-
ent with coal production requirements. Only 40 to 50 acres will
be disturbed per year which is a very minor amount of land com-
pared to the many square miles of rangeland available in the
area. After the initial disturbance and the first year of min-
ing, the mining operation will be in a position to seed and mulch
40 to 50 acres of disturbed land per Year. After a few years
these revegetated areas will provide improved range for deer and
elk because the a good portion of the brush will be removed from
the area and the grasses will flourish. Where practical brush
and rock piles will be developed to enhance habitat for small
mammals.
• Run-off from the area is controlled from the
area by the use of collection ditches and sediment ponds. It is
likely that these ponds will occasionally pond a small amount of
water which will be beneficial to the wildlife in the area. It
can be expected that the deer and elk and other wildlife will
begin using the area for range within one or two ,years after
mining commences because some of the areas will have been revege-
tated in that time.
The applicant will promptly report to the
Division the presence in the permit area of:
(1) Any threatened or endangered animal or
plant species listed or proposed to be listed by the State or
Secretary;
(2) Any critical habitat of any threatened
or endangered animal or plant species listed or proposed to be
listed by the State or Secretary; or
. 2.05-31 May 1991
