RPM, Inc.
quaking aspen and as available, spruce species to the list. Tubelings (quaking aspen and
available spruce species) will be planted at a rate of 10 trees each per acre, for a total planting of
20 trees per acre on those areas having trees and disturbed after the date of approval of this
Permit Amendment Application. (Please see the Mine Plan Map, the areas proposed for
disturbance under this Amendment Application and the aerial photo for the location of aspen.
Under this amendment, we do not propose to disturb areas having aspen or pine.)
13. The Applicant has provided a cost estimate for the permanent closure of the existing
Cross Mine Portal as well as the new Cross Mine Decline Portal. Please clarify is the Idaho
Tunnel Portal will require permanent closure as part of the Reclamation Plan. If the Idaho
Tunnel will require permanent closure, then the Applicant must include the associated costs in
the financial warranty estimate.
The Idaho Tunnel is not part of the existing mining operations or included as part of the Permit
Amendment -01. It is an historic pre -law structure. Therefore, we believe a closure design and
financial warranty is not required for this structure at this time. However, if and when Calais
needs to make use of the Idaho Tunnel Portal as part of its on -going mining operations, a permit
revision will be submitted to the DRMS which will address Idaho Tunnel closure and the
associated financial warranty.
14. (a) Please provide the Division with the dimensions of the snow roof's which cover the
access to the Idaho Tunnel Portal and the existing Cross Mine Portal. (b) In addition, please
describe the materials used to construct the snow roofs and provide the dimensions of any
foundations associated with these structures. This information is required to calculate the cost
to reclaim the site. (c) If a snow roof will be constructed as the new Cross Mine Decline Portal,
then the above requested information will be required for this structure as well.
(a) Following are dimensions of the snow roof covering the Cross Mine Portal:
The snow shed is approximately 170 feet long, 6 feet wide at the bottom and 4 feet wide at the
top.
The Caribou snow shed is approximately 200 feet long, 8.5 feet wide at the bottom and 7.5 feet
wide at the top.
The Idaho Tunnel Portal is not part of the Cross Mine operations, but rather an historic structure.
(b) They both are constructed of corrugated tin sheeting and 12X12 inch timbers. Neither of
the snow sheds have foundations
(c) At the present time, we are not proposing a snow roof for the Cross Mine Decline Portal.
RPM, Inc., 9050 Old Tom 'Morris Cir., Highlands Ranch, CO 80129 Phone: (303) 854 -7499 F X:(303) 660 -3852 Email: hlhumphries2rk comcast.net
