RPM, Inc.
in order to dispose of waste rock in the mine workings. (b) Also, please claribi if the disposal of
waste rock underground has occurred at the Cross Gold Mine.
a. At present, we are aware of only two agencies Calais needs approval from in
order to dispose of waste rock or tails in the underground mine workings. These agencies are the
DRMS and the Environmental Protection Agency, Underground Injection Control Program.
Disposal of waste rock underground is not proposed at this time. However, Calais reserves the
right to dispose of waste rock underground, if necessary. Regardless, we will any mining waste
underground until we receive proper agency approvals. In addition, we do not plan to dispose of
tails (paste) in the underground workings during this phase of the operation since none will be
generated. A future permit revision will propose disposal of mill tails as a paste into the
underground workings.
b. Calais Resources Colorado, Inc. has not placed waste rock underground at the
Cross Mine. All material mined has been ore and has been shipped off -site for further
processing.
6. The proposed Amendment calls for constructing a new office and dry room. Please state
how the existing office and dry room will be utilized in the future.
The existing Cross Mine Office and dry room will be utilized as a Mine Shop /Office Facility.
7. The amendment area includes the Caribou Mine Office and a dry room. Please state how
the existing office and dry room will be utilized in the future.
The Caribou Mine Office and dry room are pre - permit structures which have some utility to the
on -going Cross Mine operations. The Office is presently used by Calais for storage, cataloging
and analysis of drill core. The Office is also used for office space and may continue to be used,
as needed. The dry room is likely not to be used, but is part of the existing structure. However,
depending on future mine plan development; the dry room could be placed back into use.
8. The Applicant has stated only one of the shafts will be utilized for ventilation and as a
secondary escape -way. Please specify which shaft will be utilized for these purposes.
The shaft located furthest north and west of the proposed location of the Cross Mine Decline
Portal is the secondary escape -way and is used for ventilation. This Shaft is called the Crown
Point Shaft/Raise.
9. The revised permit boundary now encompasses the Idaho Tunnel. (a) Please describe
how the Idaho Tunnel Portal will be utilized as it relates to the Mining Plan. (b) Also, please
provide the Division with a brief narrative of the history of the Idaho Tunnel Portal.
RPM, Inc., 9050 Old Tom Morris Cir., Highlands Ranch, CO 80129 Phone: (303) 854 -7499 E.4X:(303) 660 -3852 Email: hlhumphries2'acomcast.net
