George and I walked around the 6 holes we found looking for a 7 but there was snow cover. George told
me about the subsidence crack repair that Energy Fuels had done. He said this was up along the road above
Newlin Creek Mine. We did not go up there due to the slick road conditions on 12/14. I should be able to meet
up with you in early January if you want to show me the crack and the 7 hole. I should be able to plan out
further in advance in January. Are there any dates that would work for you to meet up the first 2 weeks in
January? Monday January 2 is a holiday, but the 3rd -6 th , or 9 -13 ? Hopefully there won't be too much
snow cover.
was unable to pick out the holes from our aerial photos. The tree cover is pretty dense in that area, and our
photographer had not taken photos that far to the west of the RDA.
Yes, my data from the Trimble is corrected. On the maps I made with the GPS data, I did clean up the lines,
since I could not walk complete perimeters of the holes. Too much dense brush along the edges of the hole. I
walked as close to the hole as was safe, paused my Trimble when the brush was too dense, walked around
the brush or trees, then resumed on the other side of the brush. This resulted in the raw data being very
jagged. I can send you the raw shape -file if you wish.
I also spoke with Bruce Stover, the IMP project manager on the Canon City project ( #8123). He said that IMP
filled 4 holes in 1989. The two brasscap monuments mark the center of the two large repaired holes
conducted by IMP. Bruce believed that the other two holes were considerably smaller, so not marked with
brasscap monuments. The current holes were not present when IMP did the work.
We will keep you informed as we continue our review of this situation. I will be out in the field the remainder of
the week, but will return on December 27
Resectfully,
Environmental Protection Specialist III
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
phone: (303) 866 -3567 ext. 8107
fax: (303) 832 -8106
From: W D Corley, Jr. [mailto:ajjc @att.net]
Sent: Monday, December 19, 2011 5:30 PM
To: Binns, Janet
Subject: Re: December 14, 2011 inspection Ms.
2
