• 0
the reclaimed area. AmerAlia will work with the BLM,DOW, and DMG to develop the
proper shrub establishment protocols.
11.d)The BLM has conducted a raptor survey as part of the AmerAlia sodium mineral
lease requirements with the BLM. The results of that survey can be obtained directly
from the BLM. Mitigation measures, including rerouting the access road, southern water
supply pipeline, and electric power line; downsizing the plant site; and conducting a
Cooper's Hawk study will be included in the environmental assessment produced by the
BLM on the Project. Revisions to facilities are shown on Revised Figure C-1 included in
this Technical Revision as Attachment 1.
12.a)The goal of the grading plan will be to establish slopes for reclamation no greater
than 3:1 or as shallow as physical constraints allow where steeper slopes have been
disturbed. Disturbance of natural slopes steeper than 3:1 will be avoided wherever
possible.
12.b)Along linear features, such as the access road and pipeline corridor, topsoil
stockpiles will be placed in consolidated piles approximately every 400 feet in areas
protected form natural erosion. All topsoil stockpiles will be signed and revegetated for
protection.
12.c)The BLM has allowed the burial of concrete on-site during reclamation of similar
near-by facilities, as long as the concrete was broken into pieces small enough to provide
adequate sub-surface drainage(less than four feet in dimension)and buried at least four
feet deep with overburden. AmerAlia will comply with those conditions or other
conditions as may be imposed by the BLM.
12.d)The majority of the roads required for the Project will be constructed on gently
sloping lands. Minimal cuts and fills will be required. AmerAlia will work with the
DMG to restore road cuts to productive lands with limited erosion. Because the road cuts
will be stabilized during operation, backfilling is not thought to be required; however,
AmerAlia will comply with DMG final inspection regarding backfilling of road cuts.
12.e)The plant location is on a ridge top where limited cut and fill will be required.
AmerAlia will work with the DMG to achieve proper slopes and final reclamation of the
plant site.
13. All of the issues mentioned in this section are addressed in Attachment 4-"Monitoring
Plan." Please see Attachment 4—"Monitoring Plan."
14. Comments by Harry Posey in June 15, 1999, memo to Allen Sorenson
General Comment No. 6: Local and regional mapping of faults has been done See
Attachment 8—exerpted section from BLM Mine plan submittal). No active
faults are known to exist in the immediate area of the well field, and none are
expressed to the surface. As drilling is completed in the area of the well field for
7
DMG 11-23-99 Response AmenAlia,Inc.
