both monitoring wells and production wells, care will be taken to evaluate the
potential for any faults to exist in the area.
Specific Comment No. 4: Each production well will be insulated by the fluid(gas
or liquid) in the borehole which is used as the cap to direct dissolution of the
mining horizon. Also, as the hot injected mining solution enters a cavity, the hot
solution will mix rapidly with the cooler solution already in the cavity.
Monitoring of cavity temperature will be done on the solution entering and exiting
the production wells. The injection solution fluid temperature and volume will be
adjusted to assure the cavity temperature does not exceed 300 degrees F.
Specific Comment No. 5: The nahcolite-depleted decant(mining solution after
nahcolite has been crystallized and removed) will be added back to the mining
solution feed stream to be re-heated and re-injected.
Specific Comment No. 6: Evaporation ponds are no longer part of the Project.
Solids resulting from water evaporator will be disposed of in an approved landfill.
Specific Comment No. 7: All chemicals used in the operation of the Project will
be handled according to manufacturers' specifications. Any biocides used in the
operation will be stored and used in quantities and following methods approved
by the manufacturers and common in the industry. All necessary Material Safety
Data Sheets(MSDS)will be properly maintained and available on site. The DMG
will be provided a list of all biocides used in the operation, instructions for their
use, and methods of disposal prior to operation.
15. Information on heat and sulfate resistant casing cement that will be used in well
construction is included as Attachment 9 in this Technical Revision.
16. Cavity stability evaluations included the assumptions that fluid pressures inside the
cavity exert a pressure equal to the weight of a column of water to the surface because the
mining will be done in an unsaturated zone of low permeability/porosity such that fluid
pressure is exerted at the cavity boundary. In addition, it should be noted that the mining
solution will have a specific gravity of about 1.1 times that of water further increasing the
stabilizing outward pressure on the cavity.
17. A revised Figure C-1 at a scale of 1"= 500' with the final Project facility
configuration is included as Attachment 1.
18. The access road upgrade for the first approximately 200 feet from existing County
Road 24 will be newly constructed. A revised permit boundary includes this road
construction. An executed agreement giving AmerAlia the legal right to enter the lands
for this segment of the access road is included as Attachment 10.
19. Proof that E. E. Kinder lease rights have been granted to AmerAlia is included as
Attachment 11.
8
DMG 11-23-99 Response AmeriAlia,Inc.
