Mr. Wallace H. Erickson
Response to August 23, 2011 Bird Memorandum
September 9, 2011
Page 5
Response to Adequacy Issue No. C.3.
The Humidity Cell Test will be conducted as outlined in DRMS' March 25, 2011
adequacy review. The test will be run indefinitely or until notified otherwise by DRMS,
and the analyte list will be as described in the March 25, 2011 review.
Response to Adequacy Issue No. C.4.
Wildcat will use the following analytical methodologies for the "solution
characterization method to analyze for pH acidity alkalinity metals anions nitrates minerals
cyanides organic carbon and total dissolved solids TDS ":
Aqua Regia digestion. Wildcat will perform Aqua Regia digestion, followed by the
analyses below. This partial digestion uses a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acids to
dissolve sulphides, some oxides and some altered silicates. Generally base metals will be
totally dissolved but this depend on mineralogy.
• pH: paste pH;
• acidity: EPA 305.2;
• alkalinity: AOAC 11.1.05 - Titrimetry;
• metals: ICP/MS;
• anions: Dionex DX -120 Ion Chromatography;
• nitrates: SM 4500- ammonia -ISE;
• minerals: XRD with options using electron microprobe, Secondary Ion Mass
Spectrometry, MLA (Mineral Liberation Analyzer);
• cyanides: SKALAR automated analyzer;
• organic carbon: Analyzer; and,
• total dissolved solids TDS: ASTM - Conductance.
Wildcat commits to consulting with DRMS for all solids tests (e.g., SPLP, humidity
cell, acid -base accounting, whole rock analyses, solution characterization methods) prior to
the tests to determine appropriate sampling and analytical parameters, including, but not
limited to, what is regarded as a representative sample, the appropriate analytical suite for
each test, and laboratories that are qualified to perform the tests.
