Mr. Wallace H. Erickson
Response to August 22, 2011 Hays Memorandum
September 9, 2011
Page 9
• To stabilize the previously constructed out slope, material from the top of the
fill to an area approximately 20 feet (Attachment A - Sheet C3.10) from the
base of the fill will be sequentially removed in 10 foot or less benches to
form the final slope grade. The material will be removed using a
combination of an excavator and front end loader. In addition, the existing
timber cribbing retaining wall will be contemporaneously removed
following the methods approved pursuant to revised design plans
submitted following the engineering and geologic evaluations proposed
by Wildcat through the Technical Revision or Amendment process.
• Road fill material, including new out slope fill material, will be compacted
and placed per ASTM standards (D- 1557 -09) and the methods approved
pursuant to revised design plans submitted following the engineering and
geologic evaluations proposed by Wildcat through the Technical
Revision or Amendment process;
• Butresses, including new retaining (Gabion) structures, will be
constructed per design and specification, and pursuant to revised design
plans submitted following the engineering and geologic evaluations
proposed by Wildcat through the Technical Revision or Amendment
process;
Adequacy Issue No. 13.
The Division suggests the Applicant maintain a consistent and generally accepted
nomenclature for the access road stationing (i.e. Sta. 17 +20).
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 13.
Wildcat has adopted consistent nomenclature for stationing in recently submitted
maps.
Adequacy Issue No. 14.
The ASTM standard (D- 1557 -02) for compaction noted in the construction summary
work plan is not consistent with the updated ASTM standard (D- 1557 -09) reference in
the rest of the work plan. Please revise the reference.
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 14.
Wildcat will modify the reference on Page 7 of the New Access Road
Construction Work Plan to refer to the updated ASTM standard (D- 1557 -09).
DEN 97, 591, 784v1 9 -9 -11
GREENBERG TRAURIG, LLP O ATTORNEYS AT LAW • WWW.GTLAW.COM
