D. Special Compaction: Use hand operated power tampers /plate <br />compactors having a minimum static weight of 300 pounds and a <br />minimum dynamic force of 1,000 pounds, or other special compaction <br />equipment acceptable to the Engineer. Use special compaction <br />equipment adjacent to abutment rock surfaces, in restricted spaces, <br />adjacent to structures, in backfilling instrumentation trenches and in any <br />locations where other compactors specified in this Section cannot operate <br />effectively. <br />2.2 LINER SUBBASE <br />A. Liner subbase shall consist of in -place materials that is compacted using <br />a smooth -drum roller and cleaned of materials over 6 inches in diameter <br />with no angular protusions. <br />2.3 BERM FILL <br />A. Berm fill shall consist of local borrow materials placed and compacted in <br />accordance with a method specification, as approved by the Project <br />Manager and Design Engineer and where shown on the Drawings. <br />Compacted berm fill shall have a maximum particle size of 6 inches and a <br />lift thickness no greater than 12 inches. <br />2.4 ANCHOR TRENCH FILL <br />A. Anchor trench fill shall consist of local borrow materials placed and <br />compacted in accordance with a method specification, as approved by <br />the Project Manager and Design Engineer and where shown on the <br />Drawings. Anchor trench fill shall have a maximum particle size of 6 <br />inches and a lift thickness no greater than 12 inches <br />2.5 AGGREGATE BASE COURSE <br />A. Aggregate for bases shall be crushed stone, crushed slag, crushed gravel <br />or natural gravel which conforms to the quality requirements of AASHTO <br />M 147, Class 4. <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.1 GENERAL <br />A. General: The excavation and fill placement for the project work shall be <br />finished to reasonably smooth and uniform surfaces. Excavation <br />operations shall be conducted so that material outside of the limits of <br />slopes will not be disturbed. <br />If the Contractor's excavating operations encounter remains of pre- <br />historic people's dwelling sites or artifacts of historical or archaeological <br />significance, the operations, shall be temporarily discontinued. The <br />Project Manager will contact archaeological authorities to determine the <br />disposition thereof.
