shear strength, and permeability. }results of, laboratory tests are shogun in Figs.
through 14 and are summarized in Table 1.
CTL/Thompson, Inc. personnel visited the lures site periodically during the
maintenance work on the levee as the gravel l pit reclamation w progressing. The
observations and results of tests made by CTL/Thompson, Inc. are in Appendix B.
Reclamation f the gravel pit was largely completed in the spring of 1998.
The undersigned Principal of CTLIThompson, Inc. inspected the lures on July 29,
1998 to locate seeps that had appeared along the side of the reclaimed gran l pit
next to the lease. Some seeps were seen in the fall of 1997 and others appeared
after the gravel mining operation was ended and reclamation ompl t d. The
locations of the seeps with relevant l varti n data are shown in Appendix C. The
ditch flow line and water r surface elevations are referring to Dry Crash Ditch #2 that
is along the creekside toe of the lures.
SUBSOILS IN AND UNDER LEVEE
The test holes and test pits drilled from the levee crest penetrated 5 to 1 feet
of levee fill consisting of dense, clayey, gravelly to bbl sand underlain by natural
foundation soils consisting of mostly dense to very dense, clayey, gravelly to
eebbl y, , sands with occasional layers of stiff to very stiff sandy clays. Weathered
and unweathered elaystene bedrock were encountered in test hole TH-8 at a depth
of 1 feet bel ow the levee crest. Test pits excavated on either side and at the toes
of the levee penetrated dense to very dense, clayey, gravelly and eobbly sands.
Very stiff, highly weathered claystone bedrock was encountered at ar depth of 4 feet
in test pit TP-5 on the creekside (side of levee toward South Boulder Creel) of the
levee and at a depth of 1. feet in test pit TP-4 on the land side of the levee. Free
ground water appeared during drilling in three of the 12 holes drilled from the levee
crest at depths between 1 and 14 feet and in fur of the test pits excavated at the
toes of the levee at depths between 3.5 and 4 feet.
FLATIRON COMPANIES
LEVEE AT DEEPE FARM PIT
TLIT 25,355
