the borrow area) are included in Appendix F. Also included are
the daily discharge records for Basin Creek for the period
between June 1989 and May 1990. These records were obtained
through the use of a weir with insufficient capacity to measure
significant flows and are not indicative of actual flows
anticipated in Basin Creek. A new gaging station (weir) was
constructed on Basin Creek in February 1992 but washed out within
two weeks after installation. A staff gauge was subsequently
installed on Basin Creek near La Posta Road (County Road 213).
These data are also included in Appendix F.
Due to the intermittent nature of stream flows in Basin Creek,
the contractor should not plan on the availability of water in
Basin Creek for construction purposes. When Basin Creek does
• flow, the water is extremely turbid and would probably require
• treatment before using. Prior to construction, Reclamation will
acquire water rights in the amount of 5 cfs on the Animas River.
Two diversion points will be- available to meet the contractor's
construction and operation needs. One diversion point,
consisting of 3 cfs, will be located near the Durango Pumping
Plant site (Drawing No. 69-406-1800). This diversion will supply
water to Borrow Area A located within Ridges Basin Reservoir
site. The contractor will be responsible for constructing and
maintaining the necessary water conveyance system to convey this
water from the Animas River (elevation 6440) to Ridges Basin
Reservoir (maximum elevation 6980).
The second diversion point, consisting of 2 cfs. will be located
S on the Animas River near the intersection of County Road 213 and
the construction access road, approximately 1 mile from Borrow
Area B (see Drawing No. 69-406-1800).
