• The northeastern borrow area limit was established by the Animas
Air Park boundary. The south and west limits were established
near elevation 6600, which approximates top of bedrock in this
area. The northwest boundary was established to include an area
that could be used by the contractor as a staging area.
The contractor will likely use the existing staging area for
aggregate processing and stockpiling. The specifications should
require the prospective.contractor to submit-a borrow area
development plan as part of the technical proposal. This plan
needs to include the following:
Method for efficient pit development and material
handling.
- Stripping (topsoil and waste),, waste (from processing),
and processed material stockpile areas.
- Location of construction access through the borrow area.
- Location of settling ponds, equipment and fuel storage

areas.
- Final configuration of the borrow area at the completion
of Stage I.
•

It is essential that stripping and waste material not be placed
on aggregate deposits that the Stage II contractor will be
required to develop.
E.
