• II. INTRODUCTION
A. PURPOSE.
The purpose of this report is to summarize findings from geologic
and materials design data investigations in Borrow Area B. The
report includes a search of existing literature and site
investigations consisting of geologic surface mapping, 43 backhoe
test pits, 18 drill holes, and 4 test trenches. This report
supercedes all previously submitted data and reports (10/90)
concerning Borrow Area B. A separate.report is being prepared
for Borrow Area A.
B. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Animas-La Plata Project was authorized by the Colorado River
Basin Act of September 30, 1968 (Public Law 90-537), as a
participating project under the Colorado River Storage Project
(CRSP) Act of April 11. 1956 (Public Law 84-485). Authorization
was based on the feasibility report of the Secretary of the
Interior transmitted to Congress on May 4, 1966, and printed as
House Document 436, 89th Congress, 2nd Session. .
The Animas-La Plata Project is a multipurpose water resource
development project designed to serve many of the water needs of
southwestern Colorado and northwestern New Mexico. The Definite
Plan Report (DPR) and appendices for the project were published
in September 1979. The Final Environmental Statement (FES 80-18)
was filed.with the Environmental Protection Agency on
July 1, 1980. The Animas-La Plata Project Special Report, dated
June 1988, details the development of a phased approach to
construction and related cost-sharing programs.
•
Ridges Basin Reservoir will be the primary storage feature of the
v mairiuc e Construct 1ui?:?r;'? ?
