• L.A. Abrasion testing, petrographic analysis, and rock hardness
testing indicate the presence of soft particles throughout the
terrace gravel deposit. The soft particles are most prevalent in
the upper 5- to 10- feet of the deposit where it has been
affected by weathering and the presence of calcium carbonate
cementation. The quantity of soft particles decreases with
depth.
Based on the investigations to date, an estimated 13 million
cubic yards of available material has been identified in Borrow
Area B. Approximately 1.0 million cubic yards of this estimate
represent the volume of the clay overburden (Qeo), approximately
0.5 million cubic yards of lower clay (Qeol), and approximately
11.5 million cubic yards of terrace gravel deposits (Qt).
It is anticipated that some form of material processing will be
necessary to produce the required pervious embankment materials.
The production of filter sand, gravel drain material, and
concrete aggregate will require significant processing to produce
the typical Reclamation gradations that will be specified. Soil
cement aggregate can be produced by separation. Pit-run material
can be used for shell material in the dam embankment.
•
• e-ziminuche Construction Aafh, ': i
P.O.
