• first phase of the Animas-La Plata Project. The damsite is <br />located 3.5 miles south-southwest of Durango, Colorado in La <br />Plata County, Township 34 North, Range 9 and 10 West of the New <br />Mexico Principal Meridian. It is an offstream reservoir site <br />which will receive water pumped from the Animas River by the <br />Durango Pumping Plant through the Ridges Basin Inlet Conduit. <br />C. ALTERNATE BORROW SOURCES <br />Several sources were considered during feasibility studies to <br />supply pervious embankment material. 'Two of these sources were <br />considered to provide the most economical material of suitable <br />quality. These consisted of the Wheeler/Isgar source (Borrow <br />Area B) and Burnett Construction Company's Bar D pit. The <br />Wheeler/Isgar (Borrow Area B) was selected due to it's close <br />proximity to the damsite (1.5 to 2.5 miles). <br />Burnett Construction Company's Bar D pit is located on the Animas. <br />River approximately 10 miles north of Durango, Colorado, on <br />County Road 250, in Section 11, T.36N.,R.9W., New Mexico <br />Principal Meridian. This source was previously tested by the <br />Denver Office concrete laboratory, sample No. M-32671 dated <br />6-5-58. Due to time elapsed since previous testing and possible <br />relocation of the source site, the material was resampled and <br />submitted to the Denver Office concrete laboratory for testing <br />(for results see Appendix D). The sample was obtained from an <br />existing pit run stockpile at the processing plant.
