2.04.7(2)
• The five springs located adjacent to the
permit area had few measurable flows. Following is a tabulation
of the flows measured in the springs by quarter during 1988 and
1989. During 1990 all of the springs were dry.
~~
Flow (gpml
1 988 1989
Spring 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 1st 2nd 3rd 4th
SP-1 Long Draw 1.5 0.3 D D --- --- --- ---
SP-2 Section 33 0.5 D D D --- --- --- ---
SP-3 Homestead --- --- --- --- S D D D
SP-4 Bramiers Draw --- --- --- --- S D D S
SP-5 East Homestead --- --- --- --- S D D D
S = Se ep, D = Dry, - -- = No Record
(ii) During 1988 and 1989 the appl icant coll ected
baseline information for the surface drainage features noted
above. The water quality data is presented i n Exh ibit 3.
13) The surface coal mining operation is not expected to
result in the contamination, diminution, or interruption of an
underground or surface source of water. The surface drainage
system in the area will not be interrupted. The only adverse
impact that the mining operation could have on the surface drain-
age system would be to increase the sediment load in the streams.
This impact will not occur because run-off from the disturbed
areas will be passed through sediment ponds which will control
the total suspended solids in the water that enters streams
adjacent to the permit area.
The only aquifer in the area is well below the horizon
to be mined. This aquifer is approximately 20 feet thick.
Analysis of drilling logs indicate several strata of impermeable
shales between the aquifer and the lowest coal seam to be mined,
totaling approximately 20 feet in thickness. This impervious
stratum should eliminate any effects on the aquifer from the
mining operation.
(4) The Hydrologic Area Map, Drawing No. 110 and the Water
Rights Location Map, Drawing No. 111 are enclosed. The Water
Rights Location Map shows the location of permitted surface and
well permits in the area. This map is the basis of the following
discussion of water rights by map code.
• 2.04-16 May 1991
