April26, 2011 C-1981-010/Trapper Mine RDZ
Discharge from all ponds was clear. No serious problems were identified with any of the ponds, but some
maintenance items were identified during the inspection. The flumes at Oak Gulch#2 and East Middle Flume#1
require maintenance,as has been noted in prior inspection reports.Due to high water levels, it was difficult to
determine the level of sediment in the ponds or if sediment markers are in place.
Within two observed channels banks have been significantly eroded and require maintenance: the channel
downstream of East Pyeatt#3 pond and the channel downstream of culvert AE10.
Per Graham Roberts, a significant amount of water has been pumped out of K Strike Pit this spring.
GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLANCE:
At the K Strike Pit,the Molly Brown dragline was idle during the inspection of April 27,2011. A Caterpillar 5130
excavator was loading coal into trucks.
During the inspection of April 27th,the Baby Doe dragline was walking within the F Pit and the Queen Anne was
idle.
The mine was found to be in general compliance with the permit.
ROADS—Rule 4.03:
Many roads were observed during the inspection, including the Life of Mine Road, the North A Road, the Middle
Ash Road,the Middle Z Road,the K1 Road,the Z3 Road,and the B/C Haul Road. All active haul roads were
stable and were functioning as permitted at the time of the inspection. North A Road was extremely muddy and
contained deep ruts.
Several ditch-outs were inspected along the Life-of-Mine Road, and no significant erosion or other problems were
observed.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
Due to snow conditions, the ground was not visible at many locations during the inspection. On the areas that
were visible,no problems such as gullies on reclaimed areas were observed. Rills were observed on the reclaimed
slope north of the Ash Pit,and these appear to be larger than they were in March. Continued monitoring is
advised.
Area A-C-05 (in SL-12 application)was inspected and no erosion or large bare areas were detected.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 8
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 3 of 10
