Office Phone
970-522-7879
Jim Neblett, Director FAX 970-522-4018
Planning & Zoning
Planning & Zoning web: www.logancountyco.gov
LOGAN COUNTY
315 MAIN STREET SUITE 2
STERLING. COLORADO 80751
due to the absorption rate of the soil. Mining operations may temporarily interrupt drainage in the
expansion area. Reclamation and sloping will be ongoing throughout the mining process. Any temporary
interruption in the drainage pattern will be corrected by re-sloping the affected areas as closely to the
original contours as possible with no slope greater than 3:1." "Interception of surface drainage will not
occur," has been revised to read: "Interception of surface drainage will not occur (water will not be
diverted or impounded on site)." The revised Mining Plan is attached.
3. The Mining Plan has been revised to state the underlying stratum in the affected area is clay. The
revised Mining Plan is attached.
4. Exhibit D (f) has been revised to show more accurate boundary lines. The revised exhibit is attached.
5. Exhibit D (f) has been revised to show locations for topsoil and overburden stockpiles. The revised
exhibit is attached.
6. The Mining Plan has been revised to state that the suitable cover crop used to protect stockpiles will
not include introduced species. The revised Mining Plan is attached.
7. The Mining Plan has been revised to state that no fuel or other petroleum products will be stored
onsite. The revised Mining Plan is attached.
8. The concrete rubble observed during the Pre-Operation Inspection is not connected to the Kues Pit.
Logan County is using the pit site as temporary storage for concrete rubble that will be used in a
bridge project in Spring 2011. No fill material other than soil will be used in or imported into the Kues
Pit.
EXHIBIT E
1. Exhibit E has been revised to address final grading, off-site drainage, soil stock piles, and weed
mitigation. The revised exhibit is attached.
2. Exhibit E has been revised to address the drainage issued. The revised exhibit is attached.
3. The proposed premium mixture of introduced cool-season grasses is the same mixture Logan county
has used for years for reclamation purposes and are recommended in the Grasses for the Northern
Plains: Growth Patterns Forage Characteristics and Wildlife Values -- Volume 1, Cool-season - (PDF;
2 MB) October 2007, Sedivec, Tober, Duckwitz, Dewald, Printz, NDSU Extension Service, U.S. Dept.
of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Bismarck Plant Materials Center. This
mixture was approved for use in reclamation in a recent pit conversion application. Please advise us if
there has been a change in appropriate seed mixtures.
3
