CM0001676
•
Page 5
21.1.1 Field Duplicate
Field duplicates are used for solid and aqueous matrices and are independent samples which are
collected as close as possible to the same point in space and time. These are two separate samples
taken from the same source, stored in separate containers, and analyzed independently. These
duplicates are useful in documenting the field precision of the sampling process.
21.1.2 Equipment Rinseate
Equipment rmseate samples are used for solid and aqueous matrices and consist of an analyte-free
media which has been used to rinse the sampling equipment. This sample is collected after
completion of decontamination and prior to sampling. This sample is useful in documenting
adequate decontamination of sampling equipment
2LL3 Split Samples
Split samples are collected for solid and aqueous matrices and consist of one well-mixed and
• homogenized natural sample, which is split in the field into two samples and placed in different
bottles for separate analysis. One of the samples may be sent to the primary laboratory and the
other split sample to a referee laboratory, or both samples can be sent to the primary laboratory.
Each split will have its own sample number. Both split samples will be analyzed for identical
chemical parameters. The results of the laboratory split will be compared to determine
laboratory precision.
2.1.1.4 Field Blank
•
Field blanks are prepared for aqueous sampling only and provide a measure of various cross-
contamination sources, decontamination efficiency, and other potential errors that can be introduced
from sources other than the sample. A field blank is prepared using the same protocols as a normal
sample, but is not exposed to any sampling equipment. A field blank is prepared in the field and
consists of a representative amount of laboratory distilled/deionized (DS/Dl) and/or reagent-grade
(analyte-free) water and any necessary preservatives. A field blank is contained in a sample bottle
randomly chosen from each lot of bottles received from the supplier. Field blanks are required for
all inorganic or organic constituents.
PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL ===== =
C.IPROlECT116102.OOIVlt17610200i(b:ONS( 1W _ U s environ
mental
