CM0001675
2.0 QA/QC CONTROL OBJECTIVES
Page 4
QA/QC procedures act as indicators of data quality. The goal of QA is to ensure that data are
scientifically valid, defensible, and of known precision and accuracy. Precision is used to
describe the reproducibility of analytical results. Accuracy denotes the nearness of a measure-
ment to its accepted value and is expressed in terms of error. The objective of QC is to estimate
the quality of analytical data, to determine the need for corrective action in response to identified
deficiencies, and to interpret results after corrective action procedures are implemented.
QC samples from the field and laboratory are used to monitor the precision and accuracy of the data
generated. All phases of sample collection, shipment preparation, and analysis are monitored by
the QC samples and checks.
2.1 QA/QC Control Procedures
The precision and accuracy of data generated during the performance of this SAP will be ensured
by conducting stringent field and laboratory QC checks. Table 1 summarizes field QA/QC
requirements and frequencies incorporated into this SAP. Table 2 presents descriptions of the field
QC and minimum collection frequencies.
2.1.1 Field QC Procedures
The QC of field work is a qualitative process that depends on decisions made by personnel while
performing individual tasks. The professional opinions of field personnel are required to estimate
the influence of field QC on the quality and usability of the data Data meeting quality standards .
will be obtained from the field for specific tasks by the successful completion of sampling
procedures as outlined in this SAP.
As stated, Table 1 lists the field QC samples and collection frequencies required for procedures
outlined in this SAP. At least one set of field QC samples will be prepared for each sampling event
or for every 20 samples. All field QC samples will be packaged and shipped with field samples to
the laboratory in accordance with procedures outlined in Appendix A. Field QC samples for solid
and aqueous matrices are defined below.
PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL
CIPROlECTSW 102-0011R 1176101001 J6r_-W%J
C02072
Environmental
•
